Our mission

to seek and to save the lost

Graymere Missions is the work of the Graymere Church of Christ. Our mission is to mobilize, utilize our resources and talents, and to seize opportunities to fulfill the Great Commission. “And Jesus came and said to them, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age’” (Matt. 28:18-20).

While we engage in various types of mission activities, the core focus of our ministry is: “To plant a church that can plant a church that can plant a church.” This slogan is adapted from the Apostle Paul’s instruction to Timothy to replicate through the sharing of the Gospel with others. “You then, my child, be strengthened by the grace that is in Christ Jesus, and what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men who will be able to teach others also” (2 Tim. 2:1-2). It is our belief that our greatest impact can be made by teaching the Gospel, gathering disciples into local bodies, and equipping them to replicate the process themselves.

The term “Missions” has become so broad that it may refer to many different things. It could include efforts such as: short-term mission trips, long-term mission efforts, humanitarian outreaches in the areas of benevolence or medicine, educational outreach in both secular or Christian education, or social outreaches toward orphans and widows. As we have discovered, Christian hearts desire to help in all of these areas. And as a result, it is helpful to define our focus.

Therefore, our desire is to focus on church planting. It is our hope that this primary focus will then provide additional opportunities for us to join hearts and hands with the planted churches and partnering missionaries in order to reach out together in all of the previously mentioned ways.

Our missions minister

Jon Winchester serves as our Missions Minister. He grew up attending the Graymere Church of Christ, and has been involved in missions since his first trip to the country of Panama in 2001. Jon earned his BA in Management from Lipscomb University in 2003, and earned the Master of Ministry from Freed-Hardeman University in 2014.

With Graymere, he organizes our missions program. This includes tasks, such as: visiting and evaluating each mission point yearly, regularly communicating and assisting our partnering missionaries, coordinating mission trips, and seeking out new missions opportunities. In addition to his duties as Missions Minister, Jon is actively involved in preaching, teaching, and reaching out to our local community in Columbia, Tennessee.

Jon loves spending time with his wife, Heather, and their children. When he is not working, coaching youth sports teams, or volunteering with his children’s activities, Jon enjoys the correlation between a life of faith and

endurance sports. He has completed an Ironman, ultra-marathon, seven marathons, and numerous other endurance events.

“Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us” (Rom. 5:1-5).
